First a little background. Last Fall a friend bought a card from me for her grandmother. The next week, we were together and she told me how much her grandmother had enjoyed the card. My friend went on to tell me that her grandmother’s 90th birthday was coming up and asked me if I take special orders. Of course! Her grandmother had been a WAVE during WWII and she wondered if I could make a WAVE uniform hat for her grandmother’s party. I spent the week doing a little paper sculpting and finally came up with a design that I thought would work. I made the hat (you can see it here) and when I delivered it, my friend and I spent some time talking about her grandmother. After she showed the hat around to her family, I received a request to do something special for the guestbook.
Using the information that I had learned in our conversation about her grandmother, I created this purse shaped guest book for the 90th birthday party. Her grandmother has a thing for purses. There were pages inside to sign. But, there was also a place for a photo and divider pages with pictures and lists detailing some of things her grandmother had really enjoyed in her life. I thought this might be a way for her great grandchildren to learn a few details about her.
Now, some of you may have seen this when I posted it to my facebook page last Fall. But, I thought it was timely to post it here as bridal season will soon be in full swing.
I embossed the Midnight Muse covers with the Mosaic Madness stamp set and Clear embossing powder. The clasp on the purse is cut with a Labels Collection framelit and decorated with a brad. The flower hanging from the handle is from Secret Garden. I used Midnight Muse ink on Daffodil Delight and cut several flowers with Secret Garden framelits. The flowers were gently shaped with my bone folder and stacked. The flower is finished with a punch from the Boho Blossoms punch and a brad. Then, I added a piece of Smoky Slate 3/4″ Chevron Ribbon to tie the flower to the handle of the purse.
I was told that everyone enjoyed signing and looking through the guest book.
