I was a little absent last week! It was kind of cello central here or should I say cello centric? Senior recital, cello recital, rehearsals, etc. Saturday evening was my Scrapbook Club and yesterday afternoon was the first cookout of the season. I spent this morning playing with a creative idea and once I was able to figure out why I was locked out of my photo editing program, I was ready to share. Let’s just say “user error”, one I didn’t know I could make 🙂
I’ve used Watercolor Wings, Timeless Textures and the 2016-18 In Colors.
Let me tell you how I created this card and it’s Distressed Background.
This was a totally fun play today! A “let’s see what happens if” kind of creation.
I started with a 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of Whisper White cardstock and stamped the large butterfly from Watercolor Wings. The base color is Flirty Flamingo, followed by Sweet Sugarplum and the body and outline of the butterfly are Dapper Denim.
Next, I used the Fine Tip Glue Pen to outline the butterfly. This left a thin white outline once the rest of the color was applied. I think just that little bit of outline helps the butterfly to pop a little.
Then, I stamped the rows of dots from Watercolor Wings in Versamark and heat embossed in Clear.
I came back to the butterfly and brushed the wings with Clear Wink of Stella. Once that was dry, I covered the Dapper Denim outline with glue from the Fine Tip Glue Pen — so easy! It dries clear and intensifies the color for a little more contrast.
To create the background, I used a dauber and added Peekaboo Peach working from the edges towards the center. I applied color more than once since you can build it up but can’t take it off.
Tip: Ink your dauber and tap off lightly. Then, start at the edge and move in using circular motions. This will help you control the amount of color and keep you from getting round dots of color.
Next, I used the distressed woodgrain stamp from Timeless Textures. It was inked in Sweet Sugarplum and stamped around the edge on all four sides.
After daubing on a little more Peekaboo Peach, I inked the distressed stamp (third one down in the cover art) from Timeless Textures in Smoky Slate. I stamped off before stamping. This image was also applied around the edges of all four sides.
Using Emerald Envy ink and the dot cluster from Watercolor Wings, I randomly stamped dots around the card.
Finally, I daubed in more layers of color in Peekaboo Peach, Flirty Flamingo and Sweet Sugarplum. Just play until you achieve the depth of color you desire.
Once my focal image was done, I layered it onto a 4-1/8″ x 5-3/8″ piece of Flirty Flamingo cardstock before adding it to the Dapper Denim card base.
