Hi! I’m Sara Levin thertfulinker an independent Stampin’ Up! demonstrator in the United States. Welcome to my blog. Today, I’m sharing three Scrap Strip Technique cards! This is a great technique for using your scrap strips and there are oh so many possibilities for design!!
Three Scrap Strip Technique Cards

Card making designs using scrap strips are trending a bit just now. So, I thought I’d share three easy ways for you to use the trend in your card making.
For this first card, I’ve created a clean and simple design using scrap strips of cardstock. First, you’ll want to decide on your color combo. If you’re like me, that part is easy because you’ve got lots of scrap strips to choose from.

Once you’ve chosen your strips, think about how they will look coming through your word cut with the Playful Alphabet Dies. For this card, I’ve add two additional strips of color that don’t show through the letters. And, I have all of the strips reach out to the edges of the layer.
In the video below, you’ll find some tips for making spacing/centering easier.
Hand Penned Petals Card

Sometimes your scrap strips aren’t long and thing. Rather, the scraps are narrower and a little chunky. Like the ones I’ve used for this Hand Penned Petals card.
For this second card, I’ve created a sort of ombre effect. Again, sort through your scraps and choose a color combo.
Then, I stamped a random pattern for my background using the Hand Penned Petals.

Next, I added a Penned Flowers die cut. It adds a lacy texture and lets the background color and stamped design show through.

I love the script font for this “thanks” in the stamp set. It is getting a work out – LOL.
By using a dark cardstock, cut from a scrap strip, for the sentiment, you create a piece that stands out from the rest of the design and blends with the color combo.
To add just a little bit of zhuzh, I’ve ruffled a bit of Fine Art Ribbon under the sentiment for just a peek of extra glam.
Batik Boutique Card

And finally, what to do with all those extra strips of Basic White you’ve collected? Why, you should create this fabulous herringbone! It’s the perfect way to use several of your strips on one project.

Again for this card, I chose an open die cut to both accent and reveal the background layer.
If you took my Batik Boutique Class, you already have this die in your stash. Here, I’ve used it to cut Gold Foil.
And if you don’t have the Batik Dies, you need them. The open designs in some of the dies make for perfect layering elements.

So as not to detract from the herringbone background and overall clean lines, I created a there not there look for the sentiment. Again, I used the “thanks” from Hand Penned Petals but, on Basic White this time. To the Basic White sentiment strip, I’ve added a Fine Art Ribbon tab to give it a tiny accent.
And to finish, I used some of the Wonderful Gems that you’ll find in the upcoming Mini Catalog.
