Today is move in day! We’ll spend the first part of the day playing what a friend of mine calls “weak mind, strong back”. We’re thinking it won’t take too long to get everything in (there’s not much) since this is not one of the major move in days. But because of that there is no reserved parking. Wish us luck in finding a good parking space! Once she’s in, we’ll grab lunch and say “goodbye”.
Like you, I’ve created cards through the years for various occasions and accomplishments. Starting this new life seemed like a good time for a card.
I used GDP048 and the Thoughtful Branches bundle.
The challenge was to CASE the designer: sketch, color, theme…
I chose to use her color palette because it reminded me of my neighbor’s beautiful hydrangea bush. My daughter and I had just been talking about the bush this weekend.
I started with a Sahara Sand base measuring 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ and scored down the middle.
Then, I added a Sahara Sand layer meausring 3-1/4″ x 4-1/2″. The Sahara Sand layer was run through the Boho Chic embossing folder and then added debossed side up to the base using Dimensionals.
Next, it was time to work on the bloom.
I used daubers to add my color randomly onto the Thoughtful Branches stamp. I started with Blushing Bride and Soft Sky. Then I added Pool Party and Old Olive. The blooms on the neighbor’s bush are this whole range of colors!
Before stamping on the Watercolor Paper, I moistened the paper by Spritzing it lightly with water. This way the colors look kind of faded and they blend rather than being distinct spots of color.
After cutting out the stamped bloom with the Thoughtful Branches Thinlits, I cut out a second flower from Blushing Bride cardstock. The stamped flower is layered over the Blushing Bride so that just a hint of the Blushing Bride shows from behind. It gives it an airier feel.
I finished the bloom by adding medium size Basic Pearls all over the flower head.
Next, I cut the stem from Old Olive using the Thoughtful Branches thinlits. After adhering the stem, I trimmed off the bit that overhung the Sahara Sand panel and adhered it slightly under the panel and lined up with the main part of the stem. That way, it continues right off the card.
The sentiment was created using the Labeler Alphabet stamps. I cut the Very Vanilla banner with the Duet Banner punch and then lined up the letters. Once I was sure they were where I wanted them to be, I pressed my acrylic block onto their back side so that I could pick up the whole group together and retain the shape. Then the letters were inked with Old Olive. A second banner was cut from Old Olive using the bottom banner on the punch. This banner was cut in half and added behind the ends of Very Vanilla banner. The banner was finished with two Old Olive Halloween Night Enamel Dots (they’ll be available next month) and then adhered with Dimensionals.
I’ll leave this in my daughter’s room after we finish unpacking. She can read it later — after we’ve left.
