Several months ago friends of mine had a baby. Generally, I give books but decided not to this time as the parents are book lovers. I just thought there was no danger of there not being enough books in their household. Wait! What am I saying? There are never enough books. If you’ve seen my home, you’d understand.
Nevertheless, I decided not to give books but to give something handmade. Sizing on baby clothing has changed a bit since mine was little. So, I took a stab and ended up much too large. I waited to do my creating until the baby was closer to the size I purchased. The time seemed right this week, so I sat down to create something for the onesies.
I pulled out My Digital Studio and quickly leafed through the different stamp images that I own. One of the newest additions to my collection is the One Big Sale-A-Bration 2014 digital ensemble. I was pleased to find a couple of images that I wanted to use. I always choose the One Big Sale-A-Bration download whether or not I think I can use it right now or in the future. Because really, you never know and it’s free.
First I used Banner Blast, choosing the banners I wanted to print and the colors for them. For the other onesie, I filled an oval punch with Coastal Cabana and layered on one of the flowers from Petal Parade. The flower is Melon Mambo with a circle punch behind it filled with white. The Old Olive leaf is from Petal Pizzazz. I used the freeform tool to add Garden Green for the veins and then sent that layer behind the leaf. And, that cute little ladybug is from Garden Whimsy. Again, I used the freeform tool to add Daffodil Delight for the dots and then sent that layer behind the ladybug.
For the next onesie, I used three hexagon punches and resized and layered them. All three hexagons are filled with Sycamore Street digital designer paper. I resized the paper so that the proportion of the design better fit the size of the hexagons. Sycamore Street was one of the items included in the 2013 One Big Sale-A-Bration digital product. Now here’s a closeup of the final onesie.
For this onesie, I used one of the butterfly punches. It is filled with Sweet Sorbet digital designer paper. This paper is available in the One Big Sale-A-Bration 2014 download. The butterfly is matted with Soft Sky. Then, I added a medallion stamp from Artistic Etchings colored with Pear Pizzazz. I think this one is my absolute favorite.
To put these on the onesies, I printed them out on transfer paper, trimmed them and then ironed them onto the onesies.
Tip: If you have any words, you’ll want to make sure to mirror the image so that when it prints out and is transferred the words won’t be backwards. Keep this in mind for your designs too if you have a preference as to which direction your designs go.
Pull out your My Digital Studio and see what you can create.
