Any of you who have moved a student off to school know that once they have cleaned and gone, there’s still another level of cleaning to go. I’ve spent the last few days going through the closet and sorting clothing and today I found a treasure trove of old magazines that are in beautiful shape! I hated to just put them in the recycling bin. So, I contacted a teacher friend and will be making a donation to her classroom. They’re perfect for an elementary classroom and a nice supplement to the standard reading material. My daughter loved them so much when she was younger she couldn’t part with them. I don’t think she’ll mind now.
I finally got time for the creative part of my day late this afternoon. I’ve pulled out Paisleys and Posies (one of my favorite sets from the upcoming Holiday catalog) and combined it with GDP050.
Here’s the sketch:
I have to admit that at first I was a bit intimidated by how clean the sketch is.
Once I concentrated on what I wanted to make happen in the upper corner, the rest fell into place.
Here’s what I came up with:
I’ve used a standard 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ Basic Black base that’s been scored down the middle.
The designer paper layer is from the Neutrals Designer Paper Stack. This layer measures 3-7/8″ x 4-1/2″.
In the bottom right hand corner, I added a 3/8″ x 1-3/4″ piece of Basic Black. This strip helps to balance what’s going on in the upper left.
For the upper left, I stamped the large detailed paisley and the piece that reminds me of a fiddle-head fern. These images from Paisleys and Posies were inked in Tuxedo Black on Whisper White and cut with the Paisley Framelits.
Using the large flower framelit in the set, I cut a piece of Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper and tucked and layered the three pieces together.
After adding the large paisley with Dimensionals, I tucked in loops of Silver Metallic Thread that were attached with Glue Dots.
Then, I added a Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper circle to the lower end of the paisley. It was punched with the largest circle on the Owl Builder Punch.
And finally, an accent trio of Black Metallic Sequins was added.
I’m loving both the Paisley and Posies stamp set and the way this card turned out!!

So pretty! I love the bold black and white with the paisley images. The hints of silver definitely make this card feel fancy!
Thanks you Natalie! Now, I need a reason to send a “fancy” card – weddings or birthday anyone?
Super gorgeous. I love the black and white theme and what you created with the paisley stamps. Very striking. Thanks so much for the inspiration and for joining in with the Global Design Project sketch this week!
Thanks Jess! I’m totally in love with the paisley stamps and framelits. I don’t want to create with anything else right now.
Love the stamp set, the black and white and the glimmer! Thank-you for taking the GDP challenge! -krista from Canada
Thanks Krista! I was surprised at how much the black and white changed the “traditional” look of the paisleys.
Sara, I love the paisleys too and adore what you have come up with here. I am pinning this baby so I can visit again! Thanks for playing with us at Global Design Project this week.
Thank you! Paula. I know it isn’t even available yet but, I’m already hoping it carries over.
Hi Sarah, I really like your card and the colour scheme. It’s perfect with the paisley embellishment!
Thank you Louise. Glad you like the use of the paisley.
