Mummy Popcorn Box

12 Days of Halloween

It’s Day 3 of my 12 Days of Halloween!

But before I get on with showing you what I’ve created for today, I have to tell you about my fun day yesterday.

We drove out to Pittsburgh yesterday for the Pitt vs. Penn State football game.  It’s the first time in years that this rivalry game has been played.  Can you say a crowd?  We read this morning that there were almost 70,000 people at the game.  The boys on the field kept it exciting!  In fact it was a nail biter in the last few minutes of the game.

Hats off to the band!  They were on their feet and playing until after the game was over.  And the half time show was really enjoyable.  (I’ll be honest and let you know that’s why I go to the games.)

People were friendly.  The “T” system was well run and got us into and more importantly out of the stadium area fairly quickly.  No pushing, no shoving.  Thank you Port Authority of Pittsburgh for being so well prepared!

We met up with my daughter after the game and had a quiet family dinner before heading home. I think we were all beat after our hot, exciting day.

So what did I make for Day 3?

Mummy Popcorn Box for 12 Days of Halloween from theartfulinker.com

I made a mummy wrap Popcorn Box.

I think you’re going to love my, if I do say so myself “inspired” idea for the box.

The box is cut from Whisper White cardstock.  You can cut both halves of the box from a 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ piece of cardstock.

So, I played with ideas about how to get the wrapped bandage look on my box.  Frankly, I wanted it to be easy!  If you’re making treats for Halloween, chances are you’re making multiples so easy is a must.

Here’s what I ended up doing:  I inked the Banners for Christmas triple streamer banner in Crumb Cake and stamped the sides of the box.  Even at the widest point, the ends of the image are still wider so, you don’t have to worry about those bits showing up on your box.  And since the stamp is photopolymer, it is a breeze to line up the images and move down the box.  Really!!! How do I know it’s really that easy?  Because I did it after I had put the box together.  So if I can do it that way, imagine just how easy it easy when you got the pieces flat!  Just fold sides under or mask them so that you stamp only one side at a time.

I came back in with a Stamping Sponge, Crumb Cake ink and a straight piece of Window Sheet.  I used the Window Sheet as a guide to add some additional color through sponging along some of the “bandages”.  Since it is clear, it enabled me to see so that I didn’t end up with too much shading in one area.  You’ll also want to take your sponge and do what I call “taking the white off”: sponge lightly along the top and bottom edges as well as the corners.

I stamped my sentiment from Spooky Fun in Soft Suede on Whisper White and then cut it with the Classic Label punch.  I wanted a background layer.  So, I cut a 5/8″ x 2-1/4″ piece of Cajun Craze and cut the ends with the Banner Triple Punch by inserting the cardstock like so:

Insert the cardstock into the punch as shown, center and then punch.

I added a thread bow under the sentiment using four loops Copper Metallic Thread and one loop of Linen Thread.  The Linen Thread is great for adding a little bulk and additional texture to your loops.

Finally, I stamped the Mummy from Cookie Cutter Halloween in Crumb Cake on Whisper White and cut him out with the coordinating Cookie Cutter Builder Punch.  I then took a Blender Pen and added a little Crumb Cake shading along some of the bandages.  Once that was done, I punched a 1/16 hole with my Handheld Punch in both the Mummy and the Popcorn Box and tied him on with a piece of Linen Thread.

Once the Popcorn Box was finished, I filled it with mini Reese’s Cups and topped it with a little Crumb Cake shred that I made using the Fringe Scissors.
