I haven’t played with my Swallowtail stamp in quite some time. Must be a seasonal mind set. But, my creation today could change that. It’s more a clean and simple design than usual. And when I was finished I thought, “Hmm, that could be a good masculine or even sympathy card.” Let’s check out my mottled Swallowtail Butterfly card.
Mottled Swallowtail Butterfly
For this one, I lightly inked my stamp with Staz On. I wanted the permanent ink but not a hard/crisp black link. This gave a more distressed/softer look.
I loved using Lost Lagoon yesterday. In fact that’s where this card started. I wanted to use it again today and worked from there to the stamp, etc.
This stamp is quite large. And I find that it doesn’t matter whether you use the entire stamp or just part of it, the outcome is lovely.
I used an Aqua Painter and ink from my Lost Lagoon ink pad to color the image with a wash. You’ll notice that it is dark in some areas and quite faded in others. The idea was to add color but not to be too specific about how it went on so that the image retained it’s soft feel.
This muted card is quick to put together. Once you’ve applied the color wash to the image, you simply need a strip of coordinating ribbon and an accent — in this case a Vintage Faceted Button with a bit of Silver Glimmer paper in the center.
This is a good one for those days you need something lovely but quick.
