I don’t know why, but as I drifted off to sleep last night I thought, “wheels.” So, I was hot for using a Stampin’ Around Wheel today. After taking a quick tour of the Annual Catalog, I chose the Alhambra wheel. What was I going to make with it? I dunno. I’m just going to use it. Ooh, I know — I’ll color it in. So I “wheeled” my Alhambra image on my Whisper White cardstock and embossed it with Black embossing powder. Then, I pulled out my Blender Pens and my Coastal Cabana, Crisp Cantaloup and Pistachio Pudding ink pads and colored. Now, what am I going to do with this piece? Hmmm…..
Well, I’ve got some Sweet Sorbet designer paper — let’s use that. So, I added and layered and layered and stamped.
There was definitely a lot of “this doesn’t look right yet.” What can I add?
Well, I added a narrow strip of Basic Black cardstock to ease the transition from the Whisper White to the Sweet Sorbet. Along the right edge of the card, I stamped ink splotches from Gorgeous Grunge and embossed with Gold. But, the transition from the Sweet Sorbet to the Pistachio Pudding card base was not working. So, I added a line of Gold Sequin Trim and that seemed to begin to tie things together. A dauber was used along the right side of the card to add some Pistachio Pudding accents. The little bits of deeper color let the gold accents play well. But the card still lacked something. And I thought, “Spring, why not a flower?” So pulling out a couple of punches I tried sizes to see what looked best.
And along came this flower by accident. I decided to punch a piece of scrap to see if I was going to like the color and the size. The scrap had been stamped with Off the Grid and embossed. Well not only did I like the size but, I liked the pattern from the stamping. The larger petals are from the Blossom punch. And the smaller petals used the Pansy punch. Still needing detail, I added a 7/8″ Scallop Circle punch in Basic Black and some sequins from the Gold Sequin trim for the center of the flower. I was still thinking it needed something so, I pulled out the Banner punch (free for 4 more days) and added two Whisper White banners instead of leaves. I love how this flower accidentally turned out.
And since I was so hot for wheels today, I thought you might like to pull yours out and use them too. So, I shot a quick video to help you achieve good results with the Stampin’ Around Wheels. Take a look.
