I started thinking today, “I don’t know whether to count down to the end of the current catalog or to the 2014-2015 catalog going live.” It’s a tough choice. Some favorite stamps are retiring but on the other hand there are plenty of new stamps, tools and accessories to spark my interest. Either way you’re counting, the current catalog retires on June 1 and the 2014 -2015 Catalog goes live on June 2. Let’s take a look at my Geometric Collage card.
Geometric Collage
Yesterday, I felt particularly uncreative and today wasn’t looking much better until I went through my email this morning. My daughter always asks what I’ve created that day when she arrives home from school. Seeing that I hadn’t created anything new the last couple of days, she had sent me an email with some inspiration pictures that she had seen on Pinterest. While today’s creation isn’t really like any of them, those pictures she sent were just the spark I needed. In fact, before she left the house this morning I was halfway finished. Yeah!
I might have called this post “Look Ma, No Stamping” . My inspiration was a needlepoint image with lots of squares made from triangles. I started by using the Triangle punch to shape my focal pieces in Melon Mambo, Pacific Point and Crushed Curry.
Then using the Banners Framelits, I cut a piece of the I Am Me designer paper (retiring). Loving the graphic quality of some of the patterns in this pack, I wanted to layer with a contrasting pattern. While the yellow (So Saffron) in the designer paper is not the same as the cardstock triangles (Crushed Curry), they play nicely together since they are not right next to each other.
To make the punched triangles a little more interesting, some are raised on Stampin’ Dimensionals and some are adhered directly to the designer paper banner. There’s a Tea Lace Paper doily peeking out the right side of the banner. And just over it lies a triangle of Basic Rhinestones. In the lower left, you’ll notice a strip of Gingham Garden washi tape (retiring). I split this piece so that part of it is on top of the banner and the other part comes out from under the banner. Finally, I slightly curled the tips of the banner and added Stampin’ Dimensionals to keep the ends raised.
Thanks to my daughter for some inspiration this morning.
Now, it’s your turn.
