I was speaking with an acquaintance last night and she mentioned how crazy September always feels. Whether you have kids in school or not, we’re all getting out of summer mode and back into regular gear.
As I began to pull things together to create today, I spied my new and not yet opened Flower Frenzy die and thought it’s name at least was a perfect compliment to last night’s discussion.
First let me share what I do to all of my dies as I use them for the first time.
I use a full sheet label and run it through the Big Shot on top of my die. Once it has been cut, I peel off the backing and stick the cut label to the die. This makes placing pieces of cardstock easier as you can see where your shape ends. I also mark the sizes of each shape on the label so that I can cut with as little waste as possible. Finally, I save all of the die cut shapes from the label. They’re good for placing on a work in progress to get a general idea of whether you’ll want to use that shape on your finished project.
So what did I make?
I made this card. As I worked on it, it seems I was all about texture today — both what I call “visual texture” (you can see it but not touch it) and actual texture.
They both make your creations much more appealing.
I cut both the large and small five point flowers on the die out of Tangelo Twist. Then, I used Fringe Scissors to cut each petal and my fingers to gently separate the cuts. The leaves were cut out of Mossy Meadow. And the flower center is a hexagon left from yesterday’s creation. It was stamped with an image from Honeycomb Hello inked with Cajun Craze.
On the bottom half of the card, I used a piece of Cajun Craze cardstock embossed with the Argyle embossing folder. The pattern is a nice counterpoint to the pattern at the top of the card — different but similar.
The card sits on a Mossy Meadow base and uses a layer of Color Me Autumn designer paper on the top. To tie the top and the bottom of the card together, a strip of 1 1/4″ Burlap Ribbon was used.
This is the kind of frenzied Fall I like.
