It’s a tough life, but somebody has to do it.! Today, we start and figure out how to spend our days now that we no longer have classes and after school activities to run to. We’ve managed every other summer and I’m sure we’ll manage this summer. It appears that lawn mowing will take up some of this beautiful day. We count that as both exercise and getting a little natural vitamin D. Sometime this week we hope to finally get the garden in. The plants are ready but up until the last few days it has been too wet to till. I’m sure you’ll agree that nothing beats homegrown tomatoes, peppers, etc. So while the teen labor is taking care of the lawn, I spent some time creating.
I played with Flourishing Phrases today in making my card for GDP40.
This was a CASE the designer sketch. I’ve turned the original design and played with the basic layout and design elements for my card.
I enjoyed creating a black and white with a pop of color card so much yesterday that I ended up doing the same thing today by coincidence. I didn’t even realize until I was done!
This card starts with a standard 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ Bermuda Bay cardstock base that has been scored down the middle.
Then, I added a 4″ x 5-1/4″ layer of Basic Black. The card was then trimmed with a piece of Vellum cardstock that was cut with the Flourish Thinlits.
Next, I added a 3-3/4″ x 4″ piece of Whisper White cardstock.
The image from Flourishing Phrases was inked in Memento ink since I planned to use alcohol in the next step.
I squeezed a little gold Wink of Stella into a plastic lid and added alcohol to thin it slightly. Then, I used my Aqua Painter to add some light gold shimmer to flowers and leaves.
Next, I added a couple of drops of Bermuda Bay ink refill to the lid and diluted it with water. Again, I used my Aqua Painter to brush on a light wash of Bermuda Bay for the background and as highlights in some of the flowers and leaves.
The Whisper White layer was added to the card using Fast Fuse. I prefer this adhesive when attaching a watercolored piece because the cardstock has usually buckled a little bit. This strong adhesive holds everything down flat/even.
Finally, I added sequins from the Gold Sequin Trim as accents.
