Best Day Ever – Creation Station Blog Hop

Creation Station Blog Hop Banner

It’s been awhile, what with the holidays, since we had a Creation Station creative tour.  Welcome back to those who’ve joined up before.  And thanks for checking us out for those who are new to the tour.

Today I’m playing with Best Day Ever (one of the stamp sets that is free with a qualifying order during Sale-A-Bration).  I’ve paired it with a new technique and an idea for Valentine’s Day.

The technique is called Bokeh.  Here’s the definition – in case you’re unfamiliar.

In photography, bokeh (Originally /ˈboʊkɛ/,[1] /ˈboʊkeɪ/ BOH-kay — also sometimes pronounced as /ˈboʊkə/ BOH-kə,[2] Japanese: [boke]) is the aesthetic quality of the blur produced in the out-of-focus parts of an image produced by a lens.[3][4][5] Bokeh has been defined as “the way the lens renders out-of-focus points of light” (definition from wikipedia)

Now to the video “how to” for the Bokeh technique.  That way you can make your own!

Here are some samples using the Bokeh technique and Best Day Ever.

Best Day Ever and Bokeh technique cards from

The Bokeh technique gives such a soft background for these cards – even in the vibrant colors!

Calypso Coral Bokeh card from

This first card uses Calypso Coral, Crisp Cantaloupe and Hello Honey for the background combination.  See how the Whisper White is layered over the other colors?

Soft Sky Bokeh card from

Soft Sky, Lost Lagoon and Smoky Slate are combined for this background.  The Bokeh background style pairs perfectly with the larger sentiments.

Blackberry Bliss Bokeh card from

And for my last card, I went bolder.  This background uses Blackberry Bliss, Rich Razzleberry, Pear Pizzazz and Pink Pirouette.  After creating the Bokeh background, I stamped a little garden with images from Best Day Ever and added two hearts and the “you” from the Hello You Thinlits.  I’ve got a great tip for effortlessly ejecting thin images from the thinlit dies in this video.

While my cards aren’t traditional Valentine’s Day material, I think you’ll agree that my box is.

Little Sunshine Valentine's Day box from

I used the Gift Box Punch Board for this box. The punch board makes box making a snap! The box is decorated with images from Little Sunshine and Best Day Ever. If you stamp carefully on the connecting flaps, you can come very close to matching the image so that it looks whole when the flaps are closed.

Little Sunshine medallion from

Can’t you almost feel the texture on this medallion through your screen?  I stamped on Simply Pressed Clay and carefully cut it out and punched the hole used for threading before I set it aside to dry.  Love it!
