Yesterday when I was on Facebook, an item popped up in my feed that I needed to take a closer look at. A mom from our area had posted on the city’s Facebook page that her son was spending his first birthday away from home — because he has volunteered. He is serving our country in the military. I contacted the mom because I’m proud of this young man and the sacrifices that he is willing to make. Though I do not know him, I asked if I might send him a handmade card for his birthday. She was pleased and I hope he will be too! Let’s check out my Balloon Adventures for a Soldier card.

Balloon Adventures for a Soldier
Using Balloon Adventures, I created his card.
I used Basic Black and Delightful Dijon because they match the Army colors of black and gold.
After getting my Delightful Dijon card base ready, I set it aside.
Then, I stamped the sentiment from Balloon Adventures on a piece of Very Vanilla in Memento Black.
This piece was cut with the Project Life Cards and Labels Framelits. The piece is just a bit smaller than the small die in this set.
Tip: To cut the smaller size, just run the piece through a second time after you have adjusted the placement of the die. This way it fits onto the card front with room to spare.
The Very Vanilla piece was added with Dimensionals. Then, I tucked in and attached the balloons before stamping the balloon string. I inked the portion of the string image I wanted to use with a Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker.
Since the Delightful Dijon balloons that were cut with Balloon Pop Up Thinnlits had dots and diagonal-ish lines, I wanted to mimic that in my matting layer.
I turned the Basic Black cardstock piece on an angle in the Festive Embossing Folder before running it through the Big Shot.
Inside is the cool pop up feature that is created when you use the Balloon Pop Up Thinlits.
Soo easy!!
Using images from Balloon Adventures, I stamped the banner frame and Happy Birthday in Memento Black.
I used my Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker to highlight the balloon strings.
The two outside balloons are also images from Balloon Adventures. They were inked with Memento Black and stamped on Delightful Dijon before cutting with the Balloon Bouquet punch.
For the center balloon, I punched two Delightful Dijon balloons and adhered one directly to the pop up die cut. Then, I used a Balloon Pop Up Thinlits balloon to cut a piece of Basic Black. That was adhered over the second Delightful Dijon balloon and then this piece was added with Dimensionals.
Tip: By adding the solid color balloon directly to the die cut first, it gives the image more of a two dimensional look since you don’t see the Very Vanilla peeking out.
Finally, I added a Delightful Dijon bow also cut with one of the Balloon Pop Up Thinlits.
I hope he’ll like it!
