I am the worst when it comes to using my designer paper. So when I received my Sweet Sorbet designer paper (one of the Sale-A-Bration offerings), I made myself open it right up. Then I put it aside, making that first cut is sooo hard.
Let me just say the variety of designs in the pack is pretty amazing. It runs the gamut from floral to graphic. I decided that today’s card design had to start with the paper the I would incorporate rather than trying to work that in towards the end.
As a design element, I love chevrons. Lucky me as they are very on trend right now and Stampin’ Up! has them available in a variety of products. The chevron in the Sweet Sorbet designer paper pack is kind of edgy but not – the colors are soft but not necessarily feminine. Take a look at my card.
After choosing my designer paper, I matched it with a base of Sahara Sand. Immediately, the Chevron Border punch came out. I intended to just add a few of the loose chevron pieces but couldn’t part with the positive/negative piece that was left after punching. Laying it over the designer paper, I found that the chevron shaped openings just matched the size of the chevron pattern on the designer paper. Sort of made a chevron peek a boo. My loose chevrons weren’t quite working the way I had envisioned over on the right hand side of the card. So, I pulled out one of my “go to” sets — Gorgeous Grunge . It can fix most anything. Adding a stamped line of diagonal stripes in Sahara Sand down the length of the card seemed to do the trick. Now those Old Olive chevrons work. The final touch was a strip of Watercolor Wonder washi tape.
The graphic quality of this card makes it a good candidate for a masculine recipient. Who would have thought that with a name like Sweet Sorbet? Goes to show, it’s all in how you put the pieces together.
