Flourish Thinlits for TGIFC68

We’re in the final countdown.  The final loads of laundry, last shopping runs, sorting of possessions – take, keep, toss – and cleaning the room.  We’re in for a big change here – it’s time for our next life.  I’ve had several so far and will wait to see what this next one brings!  I couldn’t be more proud of and excited for my daughter.  But to say that I will miss her would be a gross understatement!  I truly appreciate the friends who have already called and made plans with me for the next few weeks.  Rather than asking me what I will do with myself and telling me how much my life will change and that I will miss her — they’re helping me to make a transition.  I am thankful in advance for their approach.

On a happier note, I’ve created a shaker card for TGIFC68 using the Flourish Thinlits.

Flourish Thinlits Shaker Card for TGIFC68 from theartfulinker.com

My card starts with a Basic Black cardstock base.  The measurements for this one are a little different.  I used a base that measures 5-1/2″ x 8″ and is scored down the middle.  I used this different size since I knew that I wanted the flowers to hang over the edges.  This way, the card will still fit into a standard size envelope.

The Pop of Pink specialty designer paper measures 3-7/8″ x 4-1/2″ .  The designer paper was cut in two at an angle.

I added two thin strips of 4-3/4″ long Gold Glimmer paper to the center edges of the designer paper.  After adhering these strips, I trimmed the outside edges to fit.  This was easier than trying to figure out the angles at the beginning.

Spacing the top and bottom edges of the designer paper so that there is a 1″ gap,  I added a 2″ x 4-3/4″ piece of Window Sheet.

Tip:  It is easy to space the pieces by placing them in the landscape orientation on your paper trimmer.  One end lines up with the trimmer groove and the other end piece lines up against the 5-1/2″ grid line.  The top edge of the trimmer helps to keep the pieces from moving around.

Next, I cut three flowers in Melon Mambo using the Flourish Thinlits.  Then, I used the thinlits again but changed my sandwich.  This time, I opened tab two or removed the adapter (depending on which platform you have) and ran the Basic Black cardstock through with the flower dies and two cutting pads.  This gives enough pressure to mark but not cut all the way through.  I finished cutting out the shapes by hand and adhered the Melon Mambo flowers.  By doing it this way, I didn’t have to worry about nicking the narrow loops of the Melon Mambo flowers if I didn’t cut carefully enough.

Using the stem and berry or bud looking die from the Flourish Thinlits, I cut three stems from Gold Glimmer paper. After cutting off the bottom part of one stem that contained two berries, I tucked one full length and the shorter stem under the largest flower.  The remaining stem was tucked under the two flowers on the right hand side.  Then, I cut the two berries loose from the trimmed piece and used them as the center of the two larger flowers.

Now, it was time to add shaker bits.  I used sequins from the Metallics Sequin Assortment and then several sequins pulled loose from the Gold Sequin Trim.  Then, I added in some of the poked out bits from the die cut Melon Mambo flowers — they were fun shapes!

To finish, I lined the edges of the shaker window with Foam Adhesive Strips (they’re wonderful!!!).  The rest of the designer paper layer is held up by a double stack of Dimensionals – it takes two of these to equal the height of the foam strips.  You could choose to use Foam Adhesive Strips instead of Dimensionals.  Then before adhering the designer paper layer, I gave the Window Sheet a quick swipe with my Embossing Buddy to cut down on static.
